Chilean Adventures of a Crew from K2

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

Haven’t posted any photos lately so here’s some eye candy that I picked up from ESPN Snowboarding. K2 riders Nick Dirks, Jordan Mendenhall, Tim Eddy, and Chris Beresford along with frequency Managing Editor and ESPN contributor Colin Wiseman indulge in a summer adventure in the Southern Hemisphere.

Wiseman provides the words and pictures as the boys travel from Santiago to La Parva to Termas de Chillan to Las Trancas to El Colorado and more. Check out the shot of Jordan Mendenhall riding an untracked road-shot in the Chilean sidecountry near Valle Nevado and remember that he’s riding cold Andean powder while you’re mowing your Mom’s lawn.

See Jordan and more and read the full account of the debauchery in ESPN Snowboarding’s gallery.

Great Dawn Patrol Ride this Morning

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

Mt. Rainier on my morning ride.I have the good fortune of dropping my daughter off at school at 6:15, so each day after that I’ve been taking a dawn patrol bike ride for a couple hours. The air has a crisp fall chill on it at 6:30 in the morning, and the only traffic on the trail is the occasional bike commuter. I stopped to check out Rainier with the light of dawn just starting to show itself behind the silhouette of the Cascades and snapped this picture with my phone.

Living here in the Northwest, the chill in the air reminds me that snowboarding is right around the corner. I picked up my Big S Pass before the September 16th price increase, and since I’m a Crystal Mountain alumnus I bought the Gold upgrade so I’ll be bagging a minimum of five days at the home mountain. Now I just need a couple new boards for the quiver.

In snow news, I heard rumor that Keystone Colorado got their first snow of the year. The Cascades have had a couple dustings above 7000 feet, so I know winter is getting closer. Soon I’ll be hitting dawn patrol missions at Alpy and Crystal instead of solo bike missions. I can’t wait!

Interview with the Brown Brothers, Notorious Big Wave Surfers

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

Brown Bros. Thanks to our “mates” at Mesurf.com.au, we came across an interview with Kerby and Cortney Brown, brothers and infamous Australian big wave surfers. While you’re sitting behind a desk at the office, or snuggled into your cozy TV chair, these guys are getting pulled into some of the most massive slabs you’ve ever seen only to get spit out smiling and unscathed.

Take a peek inside the minds of two guys who surf huge waves and put it all on the line while doing it, all for very little money or recognition. Check out the full interview and photos of some of the gnarly barrels these guys are conquering, courtesy of our pals at Mesurf.
