Can’t get enough video of Tahiti’s Teahupoo, one of the world’s most revered breaks outside of Hawaii’s North Shore. The consistency of this wave never ceases to amaze me. Here’s a short little Chase Burns edit featuring the legendary left and the bad boys that conquer her.

If In Tahiti
Friday, October 16th, 2009The Arena: North Shore Winter 2008 Trailer
Tuesday, October 13th, 2009Surfing isn’t always the first thing on my mind this time of year. With snowboard season looming, I’m thinking about frozen waves at Whistler, Mammoth and Mount Baker. Just as my winters are my lifeblood, there is a group of surfers for whom winter is equally as essential. These are the guys who surf the North Shore of Oahu in Hawaii.
The Arena takes you behind the scenes and into the lineup of one of the heaviest breaks on earth, where making the wrong move in the zone can get you a beatdown, and making the wrong move on a wave can get you killed. With nearly every move made at Pipeline documented extensively on film and video, it seems there is never any shortage of stock footy. The Arena looks to go beyond the beach view and into the psyche of the men and women who challenge themselves on Oahu’s North Shore.
And there’s plenty of good footage too.

Less than 24 hours after Jordy executed the epic move, the footage was making rounds on YouTube and changing peoples’ perspective on what could be accomplished on a surfboard.
Jordy blows through the lip and explodes into a two-handed rodeo flip, landing it on the top of the wave and pulling it back in smoothly. So gnarly!

Day Two of the Hurley Pro at Lower Trestles
Monday, September 14th, 2009
Waves of three to four feet greeted competitors this morning as they took to the water at Lowers for day two of the Hurley Pro. The conditions were not as choppy as the previous day’s waves, but there were still some inconsistencies and some challenges for surfers to overcome.
Rider of the day was Josh Kerr (AUS), current ASP World No. 25, who bagged the highest heat score of the day, a 17.17 out of a possible 20 to defeat Dayyan Neve (AUS) in Round 2 of competition. Later in the day, Kerr would face compatriot Adrian Buchan (AUS) in a heat that was devoid of any rideable waves. Kerr waited patiently for a good set and was rewarded in the final moments of the heat, picking up a nice ride to end Buchan’s day and advance to Round 4 where he’ll face current ASP World No. 3 Adriano de Souza (BRA).
Kai Otton (AUS), who yesterday beat ASP ratings’ leader Joel Parkinson (AUS), continued his momentum by schooling fellow Aussie Jay Thompson with his flaring backhands. Otton will face former event winner Bede Durbidge (AUS) in Round 4.
Day 2 also had its share of upsets. Favorites Bobby Martinez (USA), Jordy Smith (AUS), and Chris Ward (USA) were all knocked out of competition in Round 2.
The ASP Event Staff are planning for a 7:00 a.m. call tomorrow morning. When competition resumes, first up will be Dane Reynolds (USA) against Ben Dunn (AUS) in Heat 7 of Round 3.
While we’re still waiting for video from Round 2, check out this footage from Round 1 Heat 12, Jordy Smith, Michel Bourez and Greg Emslie.

Dark Fall Trailer
Sunday, September 13th, 2009Filmmaker Alex DePhillipo’s first high definition surf film follows New Jersey’s best surfers in a quest for the perfect ride. Andrew Gesler, Sam Hammer, Dean Randazzo and Zack Humphreys tackle some of the best surf right in their own backyard in spite of the adverse conditions they face on a daily basis.
The Jersey boys don’t settle for their hometown break though, traveling across the globe to Tahiti and points south to sample some warm-water love.
Having surfed the cold waters of Washington as well as the warm swells of Hawaii and California, I sympathize with these guys. Getting into some warm water after months of wrestling into and out of a wetsuit and dealing with frigid waters can be a much needed break in the monotony.
